One week to go!

One week to go!

Just one week to go until our Couch to 5k graduation at Fountains Abbey parkrun. This week has seen them tackling 30 minutes of continuous running at each of the three sessions; that’s 90 minutes of running in total and a far cry from the 60 second intervals of week 1! As a reward for their efforts, the sun shone down on their final run of the week. ☀️ The group have done a fantastic job of supporting each other. They’ve trusted the programme and their leaders, and are absolutely ready to smash through 5km next week. Go, couchies! ??? HARC does Taskmaster

HARC does Taskmaster

An evening of non-running fun saw Sara Sherwood take the crown, I mean golden shoe, at HARC Does Taskmaster. Our five adventure loving stars took on the challenges set by Katy Bamber to see which of them could 'think outside of the box'. Much hilarity ensued, with trying to guess the pie-fillings, drawing 97 monsters and a lesson in how not to do star jumps given by Marc Blair. Head coach, Chris Lees, had the unenviable task of awarding the scores. The evening followed the format of the comedy show which airs on Channel 4. Imogen Robinson had a great time reading the challenges; Andrew Garner failed to win over the judge with his pleas for points, and Michelle Slade produced her own beautiful jigsaw. A special mention to Sarah Higo for putting herself on the line as a last-minute stand-in - boy, can that girl fold a towel! Huge thanks to our juniors, Coco and Katie-Beth, for working so hard on the production...

HARC Angels 5k for Lucie’s Animal Rescue

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the HARC Angels 5k for Lucie's Animal Rescue in December. We hope you had lots of fun completing the challenge and that you love your medals. ?? We raised £375 to help care for animals in need of Lucie’s support.? HARC’s Lucy Allen and Gemma Wardle visited the rescue centre to present a cheque to Lucie, Rascal and Pepper. ?? Both club representatives were tempted to smuggle the pups out and bring them home! Special shout out to Alverton Press who very kindly printed the ‘big cheque’ for us free of charge – thank you Peter and co! ?...

Latest C25K Success

Latest C25K Success

Another Hambleton Athletics and Running Club Couch to 5K programme has graduated at the weekly parkrun held in the grounds of Fountains Abbey. The newly-fledged runners had the opportunity to run a continuous 5K with the support of Head Coach, Chris Lees, and newly qualified coach, Becky Williams. It was the culmination a ten week programme and there was a huge turnout from other club members to encourage the runners around the 2 lap course and over the finish line. The bad weather of recent weeks thankfully held off for the occasion and runners enjoyed a well-earned post-run coffee and cake in the café. Annabel McGregor, one of this cohort’s graduates, had this to say: “If HARC can get me through this programme, they can get anyone through it! I needed more support due to my MS and knew it was the club for me after seeing how they all supported each other at the recent races held in Snape. HARC offers brilliant value...

Hambleton Athletics and Running Club Awards Night ?

Hambleton Athletics and Running Club Awards Night ?

HARC’s second annual Awards Night was a time for celebration and camaraderie, as club members enjoyed a wonderful feast at Institution in Bedale. Eight trophies were awarded to reflect the club’s principles: ‘Caring & Supporting’; ‘Coaching-led’; ‘For Everyone’; and ‘Enjoying Our Sport’. And the winners are… Our Greatest Of The Year (male), affectionately known as ‘Billy GOTY’, was presented to one of the club’s juniors, Harvey Wilkinson. Harvey is a superb up and coming shot putter whose excellent performances this season have earned him a current top 20 national ranking. The ‘Nanny GOTY’ (Greatest Of The Year – female) went to Lesley Whitehouse who achieved a superb age-graded performance at 5km distance at Sherwood Pines parkrun. Joanne Sinnott received the ‘Captain Cook Cup’ for endeavour. Jo set herself phenomenal challenges this year in a bid to raise over £3,000 for MND, a charity very close to her heart. During the qualifying period, she ran a number of full marathons, and ran 86 solo miles...
