Transition Week

Transition Week

This week has been TRANSITION WEEK! 🎉 Our Thursday routes, both longer and shorter, have been getting progressively longer over the last couple of months. This week, both dropped back down to be at their shortest. This is no accident! The routes are carefully scheduled so that when a C25k group graduates, the shorter route is accessible for them at around 5km, and gradually builds up from there. At the same time, the distances of the longer routes also drop down. This is to help people who have been running the shorter routes to smoothly transition onto the longer routes. The clocks have now gone forwards so we've lighter nights to look forward to as we continue our running journeys. Lots of you have been getting out there under your own steam too, to supplement what the club currently offer. Well done! We've been dot-watching and eating curry this week too - never a dull moment at HARC!...

You may well ask 'What goes on at HARC, aside from intervals and the regular Thursday social runs?" The answer is: C25K support runs and graduation, parkrun milestones, marathon/ultra training runs, competing at Lightwater Valley 10K and Thirsk 10 miles, and the NYSD relays at Darlington South Park to finish off the Xcountry season. Phew! Aren't you glad you asked?...

C25K Graduation

C25K Graduation

Wow - what a fabulous morning celebrating the amazing achievements of another cohort of Couch to 5k participants! Our graduation run was held at Fountains Abbey parkrun, a beautiful venue which was even more spectacular bathed in sunshine. This was the culmination of ten weeks of commitment to the programme - running three times a week under the guidance of our coaching team and with the support of the wider club community. Claire Harris signed up to the programme because, being a mum of two young children and approaching 40, she wanted to do something for herself. After the graduation run, she said, “I’ve really enjoyed the last ten weeks. I’ve gone from a complete non-runner, struggling to complete the first 60 seconds, to being able to complete a full 5k. And the parkrun today was a great way to finish it. But what I’ve loved best is being part of such a supportive and friendly group who have encouraged me the...

One week to go!

One week to go!

Just one week to go until our Couch to 5k graduation at Fountains Abbey parkrun. This week has seen them tackling 30 minutes of continuous running at each of the three sessions; that’s 90 minutes of running in total and a far cry from the 60 second intervals of week 1! As a reward for their efforts, the sun shone down on their final run of the week. ☀️ The group have done a fantastic job of supporting each other. They’ve trusted the programme and their leaders, and are absolutely ready to smash through 5km next week. Go, couchies! 💪💙🩵 If you’d like to join our next C25k programme, visit https://harc.uk/c25k-waitlist to register your interest....

HARC does Taskmaster

HARC does Taskmaster

An evening of non-running fun saw Sara Sherwood take the crown, I mean golden shoe, at HARC Does Taskmaster. Our five adventure loving stars took on the challenges set by Katy Bamber to see which of them could 'think outside of the box'. Much hilarity ensued, with trying to guess the pie-fillings, drawing 97 monsters and a lesson in how not to do star jumps given by Marc Blair. Head coach, Chris Lees, had the unenviable task of awarding the scores. The evening followed the format of the comedy show which airs on Channel 4. Imogen Robinson had a great time reading the challenges; Andrew Garner failed to win over the judge with his pleas for points, and Michelle Slade produced her own beautiful jigsaw. A special mention to Sarah Higo for putting herself on the line as a last-minute stand-in - boy, can that girl fold a towel! Huge thanks to our juniors, Coco and Katie-Beth, for working so hard on the production...
