A huge congratulations to our latest group of Couch to 5k runners who completed their programme with a fantastic 5km run at the breathtaking Fountains Abbey parkrun last Saturday!
Over the past ten weeks, this amazing group has worked their way from walking and jogging short intervals to confidently running a full 5km. The Couch to 5k programme is designed to support beginners in building fitness, confidence and a love for running – and this group has truly embraced the journey, showing determination, perseverance, and team spirit every step of the way.

The course was led by our newly qualified Leaders in Running Fitness, Rich and Garry – this was their first ever C25K programme – and what a brilliant job they’ve done! Their dedication, encouragement and positivity have helped guide each runner to achieve their personal goal. We’re incredibly proud of them for taking this step into leadership and inspiring others in our community.
The grand finale took place in glorious sunshine at the iconic Fountains Abbey parkrun, often hailed as one of the most scenic parkruns in the UK. With stunning views of the historic abbey ruins and tranquil parkland, it was the perfect setting to celebrate the culmination of weeks of hard work.
On completion of the programme, Jayne said, “C25k has been a wonderful experience. The HARC team have been fantastic and so supportive from start to graduation. To think I couldn’t run for one minute at the start and did a 34 minute 5km run round Fountains Abbey on graduation day! The coaches are exceptional, very caring and supportive. I would recommend anyone who is thinking of running should do C25K with HARC – it will change your life!”
To all our graduates – we couldn’t be prouder! Many of you started with doubts about even running for a few minutes, and now you’ve crossed the finish line of a full 5km, surrounded by cheering from your new HARC running family. Your commitment has been truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see where your running journey takes you next!
A heartfelt thank you to our fellow HARC members who came along to support – running alongside the graduates or cheering them on around the course. Your encouragement truly embodied the HARC spirit and made the day even more special for everyone involved.
After the run, our new runners received certificates and medals to mark their achievement, and everyone enjoyed some well-earned refreshments in the café – a wonderful end to a brilliant morning!
