Thanks for taking a look at our latest programme for complete beginners and those returning from injury. It is open to anyone aged 12 and above (under 18s subject to risk assessment) and is offered by Hambleton Athletics & Running Club (HARC).

The ten week programme itself is free, but if you like it after a couple of weeks, you will have to join the club. This costs £35 through to the end of the 2024/25 membership year on 31st March 2025, and will give you a group and structure to keep up your running after the programme - plus lots of great socials (with and without running!).

We will start on Tuesday 7th January and finish on Saturday 15th March.

The sessions will alternate between Bedale (meeting at the Dales Centre) and Northallerton (meeting outside the Leisure Centre by the Sports Village). It is also possible to join virtually (via Zoom) if you can’t make it in person to a session.

The group will be meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.15pm and Saturday mornings at 9.00am. These times are chosen to the same as the times when the club already meets, so that - after the programme - you can continue with us, whether that’s in person or virtually. The sessions will last around 45 minutes, although the first and last ones will be a little longer.

If you can't make all of these sessions, we will let you know each week what you need to do and you can fit them into your own time. However, we do very much encourage you to stick with the group if you can - we have found over the years that the structure of the group and encouragement from your peers plays a significant role for many in successfully completing the programme. It is also much more fun that way!

You will need:

Running shoes or trainers - as long as they are comfortable.
Several thin layers of comfortable clothes to run in - nothing that rubs.
Later in the programme you will need a high-visibility running vest (approx. £5 from sports shops or online)
A water bottle.
If you want to join remotely, a mobile phone with the Zoom meeting app installed and earphones you can wear while running (get Zoom here: https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting)
